Earlier calls used to be very expensive, even the quality of the calls were below average. Companies used to charge Rs. 20-30 for one minute. But now its very cheap.

In 2016 when Jio entered the telecommunication market it hit the other companies as Jio was providing high quality unlimited calls, sms and data for free.

Jio planned that call should be measured as amount of data instead of minutes, and it was huge success in Indian market. They truly revolutionized the communication market in India.

Internet works as transmission of packets of data. when send a data, it breakdown as small packets and are delivered to targeted device.

When we call through internet then both the devices transmit and receive data in an organised manner so that message doesn't get jumbled.

But old phones and telephones cannot do the same.

When we call from skype to a remote telephone it undergoes a different mechanism and the reverse is not possible until the telephone is not connected to Internet.

VoIP is the technology which make this possible.

It stands for Voice over Internet Protocol. IP and TCP are responsible for transmission of data as packets.

These devices can be connected to Internet and can call using Internet.

Just like coins have two faces it too have advantage and disadvantage.

Advantages-

It is very cheap compared to normal calls.

Disadvantages-

User has to compromise with the quality of the call as it is not good.

There is delay between the two ends.

These calls are very difficult to track due to which many times we cannot call emergency numbers.
